Cryptojacking Still a Foreign Concept for Many Security Pros

For over 57% of the 150 cybersecurity professionals surveyed by Exabeam the concept of cryptojacking is not something they are acquainted with, while roughly 65% said that they are also unfamiliar with shadow mining.

The professionals were interviewed by the security information and event management (SIEM) company Exabeam at the 2019 Cloud and Cybersecurity Expo in London.

Shadow mining is a concept describing the process through which a malicious insider takes advantage of a company’s computing resources to surreptitiously mine for cryptocurrency, while cryptojacking describes the exact same process but performed by a malicious actor not employed by the organization.
